Sport and Concert Complex After Karen Demirchyan
The largest sports and concert complex in Yerevan is the sports and concert complex named after Karen Demirchyan, which consists of 2 main halls: sports and concert halls.
The first was the sports hall, which was commissioned in 1983. A year later, the second hall was also opened.
In 1985, an accident happened: a fire broke out in the building, after which it was closed again and reopened after a year and a half. The complex was developed by a group of Armenian architects, K. Hakobyan, A. Tarkhanyan, S. Khachikyan, H. Poghosyan and G. Musheghyan, engineer constructors: I. Tsaturyan, G. Azizyan, engineer technologist: M. Aharonyan.
The building has a distinctive and unique appearance, because the exterior of the complex resembles a large bird with its wings spread. The main hall has 6,000 seats, which is used for sports events and concerts, when expanded it can seat up to 8,800, the concert hall can seat 2,040 and the sport hall has 2,000 seats.
